DOG FOOD SAFETY + NUTRITION TESTING
Pet industry safety lapses are the #1 cause of pet food recalls. At COAST+RANGE we feel the industry should do more to protect our companion animals so we make the quality, safety, and nutritional adequacy of our foods our #1 priority. That's why we make all of our products ourselves in our company-owned and operated bakery in Henderson, Nevada. This is more expensive than using a third party co-packer (like much of the rest of the pet industry), but it allows us to ensure that every batch of food and treats we bake meets our exacting standards. It is also why COAST+RANGE dog food has never experienced a recall in its history (founded in May 2017).
Industry-leading dog food safety program
In addition, we have an industry-leading dog food and treat safety program where we perform all tests required by law and over a two dozen additional tests that are NOT REQUIRED. Unlike the rest of the pet industry, we won't ship any of our products unless we know they are safe and have passed our rigoroussafety and nutritional testing protocols.
Dog food nutrition testing
We test our foods - in a lab with test tubes, never on animals - to ensure that they exceed the nutritional requirements set by the Association of Animal Feed Control Officials or AAFCO. This is a series of 40 different tests that we perform on a regular basis to ensure that we are providing your dog with the best possible nutrition (not just meeting the minimum requirement).
We also perform over a dozen additional nutritional tests that are not required including:
- Trans-fat / Saturated-fat
- Protein species assurance (suppliers will often trick unsuspecting pet food companies by substituting cheaper proteins - not COAST+RANGE)
Dog food safety testing
We perform our safety testing protocol - including over a dozen tests not required by law - on EVERY batch of foods we produce. We also regularly test our gently-baked foods for the most common causes of dog food recalls like:
- Mycotoxins and aflatoxins - the #1 cause of dog food recalls
- Pentobarbital contamination
- Excess levels of Vitamin D
- Heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic
